The Purple Puncher is a common type of ghost that Luigi encounters in Luigi's Mansion. They first appear in the Anteroom, then in other locations throughout the adventure.
They move at a fast speed towards Luigi and will try to punch him when at a short range, dealing 10 damage (or 20 in the Hidden Mansion), though their attack have a longer range than those of Gold Ghosts. They are also vulnerable to any element.
Three Purple Punchers (six in the 3DS Hidden Mansion) are fought as the second wave of ghosts Vincent Van Gore sends at Luigi.
Abilities[]
Scare: Like most other ghosts, Purple Punchers can scare Luigi upon appearing, briefly halting his movements.
Invisibility: Purple Punchers can become invisible when not attacking.
Uppercut: A Purple Puncher can uppercut Luigi, doing 10 HP of damage if it hits. (20 in the hidden mansion)
Minor appearances[]
Purple Punchers make minor appearance in several later Mario games:
- In Mario Power Tennis, they, as well as several other generic ghost species from Luigi's Mansion, appear on the Luigi's Mansion tennis court.
- In Mario Sports Mix, they appear as spectators to the many sporting events. They also can be assistants to the players in the Luigi's Mansion stage.
- A Purple Puncher also appears as a part of a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, along with a Gold Ghost and a Blue Twirler.

Trivia[]
- Despite having "Purple" in their name, they are actually pink and are even said to be pink in their 3DS in-game description.
- In an earlier version of the game, Purple Punchers had 30 HP each. However, this was changed to 20 in the final version for unknown reasons. This beta shot can be seen on page 19 of the US Luigi's Mansion Instruction Book.
- However, they do have 30 HP in the Hidden Mansion.
- In the beta design, this ghost has a golden color instead of pink, with also a characteristic big nose.
